Having a few days to take things slow after a busy week at Disney was just what we needed - Rob couldn't have planned it better when he booked us two nights at luxury beach resort, Tranquility Bay.
White sand, blue water and palm trees swaying in the wind - it was paradise!
We arrived at Tranquility Bay in the late afternoon, after a six hour drive (and pit stop at Burger King!) from Orlando International Airport. Pretty shattered, we checked in and spent a little time practicing our golf skills on the putting greens, before cosying up for an early night.
In the morning, we had a little lie in, then popped across the road for smoothies and omelettes at a local Cuban cafe. The rest of day was spent wandering around the beautiful resort, relaxing on sun loungers, making the most of the three swimming pools and tucking into caesar salad, fish tacos and virgin mojitos at TJ's Tiki Bar. Tranquility Bay is so very aptly named - sometimes it felt like Rob and I were the only two people in the resort, and I don't think I've ever felt so calm and content in my whole life.
Dinner was the perfect excuse to get a little dressed up and make the most of our convertible, though we accidentally missed a turning, which meant we had to drive across the seven mile bridge and back again! It was very much a happy accident, as it is definitely one of the highlights of our trip - it honestly felt like we were at the end of the film when the girl gets the guy and they drive off into the sunset for their happily ever after. We eventually made it to Sunset Grille & Raw Bar, and watched the last of the sunset over lobster, truffle fries and cocktails.
The next morning we were up bright and early to fit in a jet skiing session (let's just say I found it scarier than any ride at Disney!), then it was time to jump back in our convertible and drive down to Key West...
With less than 24 hours in Key West, we certainly made the most of it! We checked into our quaint B&B for the night, Duval Gardens, then walked to the southernmost point of America to dip our toes in the water. We then walked the whole length of the Key along Duval Street, found the perfect spot at Sunset Pier and tucked into shrimp, buffalo wings and chips while watching the most amazing sunset - the perfect end to a perfect holiday.
And then it was time to go home via Miami Internation Airport... but not before we squeezed in a visit to the Alligator Farm in the Everglades!
To experience this and Disney World in the same holiday, I was pretty overwhelmed. I haven't been abroad that many times in my life - and to go on such an adventure with the love of my life, well that was pretty special. I know I have said this hundreds of times, but thank you (times a million!) Rob for planning the most amazing holiday ever. I love you!
